LaVonne Ellen Hodgin, age 74, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA.
She was born August 16, 1934 in Cando, North Dakota to William and Margaret Jay Armey. LaVonne was a lifetime resident of Sedro-Woolley until moving to Mount Vernon 2 ½ years ago. She attended school in Sedro-Woolley and graduated in 1952 with honors from Sedro-Woolley High School.
LaVonne was married to Albert Hodgin at the Free Methodist Church in Sedro-Woolley on August 6, 1955. She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s businesses for many years which included Hodgin & Sons Logging, H&M Logging, The Wixon Club, and Big Al’s.
She enjoyed playing bingo, crossword puzzles, scrabble, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. LaVonne also enjoyed bowling and was an avid reader and a history buff. Since moving to Mount Vernon, she was an officer and an active member of the resident council at the Vintage Apartments. But most of all, she enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
LaVonne is survived by her sons; Rick Hodgin of Lyman and Russ Hodgin and his wife Kelly of Bow. 7 grandchildren; Rickie of Mount Vernon, Kristie of Sedro-Woolley, Shannon of Anacortes, Jacob and Riley of Lyman, Frankie of Bow, Bill of Nevada, and 2 great grandchildren; J.J. and Julian of Sedro-Woolley. 2 brothers; Lloyd Armey of Sedro-Woolley and Lewis Armey of Alger. 2 sisters; Gladys Smith and Sharon Anthony of Mount Vernon. 2 aunts, Gladys Smith and Joyce Johnson of Mount Vernon and an uncle, Joe Armey of Seattle. Numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her close friend, Donna Nowak of Lake McMurray. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Albert in December of 2000.
Graveside Services will be Friday, August 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Jeff Hodgin of Bellingham officiating. A potluck fellowship will follow the service at the Memorial Park located behind the Sedro-Woolley Community Center. Visitation will be available at Lemley Chapel from Tuesday through Thursday from 9AM to 5PM. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
