Leona Mae Stangeland, 83, a resident of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born May 26, 1922 in Milltown, WA the daughter of William and Lena Nelson Swanson. She grew up and attended school in Milltown, Stanwood, and Alaska.
She was married to Vernon Stangeland in Everett in 1946 and they made their home in Soap Lake for ten years, returning to the Milltown and Stanwood area residing there for many years.
Leona was a member of the Eagles and Legion Auxiliaries, but most of all she enjoyed her family.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Verna Anderson and her husband Darryl of Clear Lake, Pat Stanek and her husband Rocky of Burlington and Barbara Minzel and her husband Bob of Moses Lake and a son, Mike Stangeland and his wife Anne of Covington. Also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon, two brothers, Wilford and Lyle Swanson and two granddaughters, Michelle Stangeland and Tara Anderson.
A celebration of Leona’s life will be held at the home of her daughter, Verna Anderson, on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at 1:00 PM.
Inurnment will be in the family plot at the Fir-Conway Lutheran Cemetery.
