Marlys Meyer

Sunday, June 7th, 2015

Marlys M. Meyer, age 79, passed away at home, June 7, 2015, after battling pancreatic cancer since December, 2014.  She was born February 25, 1936 in Wadena, Minnesota to David and Veronica (Goche) Murdock.

Marlys, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, formerly of the Lyman area, was an opinionated woman; you knew where you stood with her.  She thoroughly enjoyed college football, especially Boise State and Oklahoma, the Mariners and of course the Seattle Seahawks.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing BINGO and traveling.  She has been a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, making hats and scarves for the church and Christmas baskets.  She worked as a bartender for Gene’s, the Corner Tavern and the Carriage House.

Marlys is survived by her daughter, Suzann and her husband, Herb Lane, of Burlington, Washington; six sons, James and his wife, Connie Meyer, of Lihue, Hawaii, John and his wife, Kathy Meyer, of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Joseph and his wife, Karen Meyer, of Mustang, OK, Jerry Meyer, of Everett, WA, Jefferey and his wife, Lori Meyer, of Nampa, Idaho and Jason and his wife, Rose Meyer, of Sedro-Woolley, WA; 30 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; three brothers, Louis Murdock, of Verndale, Minnesota, Raymond and his wife, Emily Murdock, of Staples, MN and John Murdock, of Choctaw, OK; a sister, Barbara and her husband, Frank Scheller, of Verndale, MN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Jeanette Wetzel, Betty (Goche) Romvedt, Dee Olestrum and Henry Schroder.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters in law, Myrna Murdock and Ann Murdock; grandson, Kevin Lane.

Marlys’ family would like to give a special thanks to her caregiver, Mel and the Hospice team.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00, Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 719 Ferry Street, Sedro-Woolley, with Father Martin Bourke celebrating.  A time of visitation is available from 9:00 to 5:00, Wednesday, at Lemley Chapel followed by a Rosary recited at 7:00 at Lemley.  A Graveside Committal will follow Mass, and then a reception at the church hall.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Pancreatic or Breast Cancer funds or Hospice.

We are so sorry on the loss of your Mom, Grandmother and our sister.
Ray talks about times of roller skating in their grandparents home across the road. All good memories.
She worked hard and her family was always important to her.
    May she rest in peace.

To The Family of Marlys Murdock Meyer.

Suzie, Jim, John, Joe, Jerry, Jeff, Jason & your families.

My/Our most sincere condolences to you in the passing of your precious mother, grandmother and friend.

Yes, Marlys Murdock was/is one of my most admired friends–preschool, elementary, high school and on. She with her sister Barbara, as little preschool girls were the precious stars and always remain that way for my mother and father–Leroy & Evelyn Goche. My father Leroy and Marly’s mother Veronica are brother and sister. I have pictures of your Mom as she was growing up, should you wish.

Marlys and her sister Barbara took great care of their younger cousins. They would hook up the cart pulled by the pony and give me great rides, they taught me how to ride bicycle, we would swing on the old bed spring swing between the trees, we picked hazelnuts in the farm grove, and the list goes on. All great, treasured memories.

And with each, I treasure the happy, jolly smile Marlys carried every day. Talking with her on the phone the past few years, I could still always hear that faith filled love in her voice.

May you treasure the wonderful memories of a devoted Catholic lady always wanting to do good for others.
