Maxine Elaine Athearn, 84, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident was taken home on Sunday, July 8, 2007, guided by her family & friends.
‘Elaine’ as she was known, was born on June 24, 1923 in Bow, Washington.
She worked for the State of Washington, first at Northern State Hospital in Sedro-Woolley and then as a secretary for the Department of Social and Health Services in Mount Vernon.
Elaine was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Mariners, Seahawks and NASCAR and sharing goods times at the casino with family & friends. Elaine loved life and especially her family and friends.
She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Toni & Burke Zufelt of Auburn, WA and her son, Wade Athearn of Maple Falls, WA. 2 grandchildren, Lisa Taylor and John Zufelt and 3 great-grandchildren, Zoe, Makeyla and Emily. Her ‘Rowdy Girls & Dave’, Sharon Miller of Burlington, Susan Mayfield of Sedro-Woolley, Dave Mauer of Lyman and the new Rowdy Girl, Melissa McClane of Sedro-Woolley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Athearn, her son, Nick Lisa and 2 brothers, Jack & Tom Welch.
‘Elaine was the Light and we were the moths drawn to her brightness, and though that light is gone the flame in our hearts will burn forever.’
The family suggests memorials be made to the Sedro-Woolley Fire Department or the Disabled American Veterans of Washington.
A Life Celebration will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at the Overflow Tavern in Sedro-Woolley beginning at 12 noon.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
