Ray White

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Ray White, 82, a longtime resident of the Darrington community, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Providence Hospital in Everett.
Ray was born on June 30, 1926 in Hazelwood, North Carolina, the son of James & Lydia Wright White. He was raised and attended school in North Carolina.
In October of 1943, at the age of 17, Ray enlisted into the U.S. Navy where he served as a torpedo man aboard the USS Hake, which had a successful run during WW II. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to North Carolina until moving to Darrington, where he has made his home for nearly 60 years.
Ray, loving the outdoors, worked as a logger in the timber industry until his retirement. He loved to hunt and fish and looked for any excuse to be in the woods. He was a master story teller, beloved grandpa and ‘Uncle Ray’ to most everyone in the community.
Ray is survived by his son, Mark White and his wife, Cindi of Sedro-Woolley, WA and their children, Derek, Danielle, Brittany and Mike; and his daughter, Kathy Savage and her husband, Bruce of Auburn, WA and their children, Jeremy, Shawna and Nicki. Ray was also blessed with may nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Lydia; brothers, Hugh, Jack and Robert and sisters, Billie, Maude, Lucille and Jimmie.
Graveside Inurnment Services with Military Honors will be held at the Darrington Cemetery on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Tim Farnham of the Cascade Christian Church officiating.
The Mark White family would like to thank Providence Hospital for their compassionate care during Ray’s stay; Everett & Pam White for their countless hours of love and support spent at the hospital and to special friend and care giver Candy Brooks.
