Richard Norman Hall, Sr., 79, a longtime resident of the Punkin Center community near Hamilton, WA passed away at his home on Saturday, July 8, 2006.
He was born on December 5, 1926 in Saint Maries, Idaho, the son of Albert & Ella Bell Hall.
Richard was first raised in the Longview/Kelso area of southwestern Washington until moving to the Hamilton area in the mid 1930’s. He attended grade school in Hamilton and high school in Sedro-Woolley, graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1944. During WW II Richard served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
On January 27, 1946 he was united in marriage to Eva Petersen in Hamilton. After his discharge from the service he attended and graduated from Western Washington College in Bellingham with a Masters Degree in Education.
In 1958 Richard and family moved to New York where he was a professor and administrator at State University of New York in Buffalo for many years, retiring in 1991 as Associate Dean. He then returned to and settled in Hamilton.
He was active in and a deacon at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo, NY and a longtime member of the Burlington Lutheran Church in Burlington, WA. He served on the Board of Directors at Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood and also was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Concrete.
He enjoyed gardening, reading, photography and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eva, at the family home in Punkin Center. Son, Richard N. Hall, Jr. and his wife, Maria of Phoenix, AZ and his daughter, Nancy Hall of Sedro-Woolley. 3 grandchildren, Kimberley Snelling, Dean Delo and Melanie Delo and 6 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Kaitlin & Debbie Snelling, Jessica Moorhouse, Ethan Hall Delo and Devan Mooney. His brother, Roland Hall and his wife, Linda in Lake City, Florida; a sister-in-law and her husband, Verna & Lyle McClure of Hamilton; a sister-in-law, Carol Hall of Camano Island and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James E. Hall.
The family suggests memorials be made to Skagit Hospice, PO Box 1376, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Richard Grinstad of the Burlington Lutheran Church officiating.
Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
