Shelby William Talbert

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Shelby William ‘Chub’ Talbert, 89, a lifelong resident of Sedro- Woolley, Washington joined his parents and family with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 13, 2006 in Mount Vernon, WA.
Chub was born June 3, 1917, at the family farm, east of Sedro Woolley to parents Ervin and May Smith Talbert, who were early Skagit County pioneers. He was raised on the farm and attended Sedro Woolley Schools. He married Ruby Parker on July 1, 1935 in Mount Vernon, Washington. Chub, his father, and brother, Les, cleared the land and built his family home on Talcott Street, where he and Ruby lived for 64 years.
Chub worked for WA ST Highway Dept., retiring as foreman in 1980.
Chub was a quiet person, a hard worker, honest, moral, and loyal to both family and friends. He was a devoted son and was the caregiver to his parents. He was always a giver, never a taker, a true patriot, and truly, a giant of a man. He enjoyed woodworking and his yearly garden was always admired by all.
Chub is survived by a loving family, Ruby, his wife of 71 years, son, Gary Claudean Talbert of Oak Harbor, WA, grandson, Shannon Natashia Talbert of Fairfield, CA, grand-daughter, Erin Robert Beall of San Ramon, CA, great-grandchildren, Ryan, Garrett, and Carissa Talbert, and Landon and Jake Beall, nieces Linda and Judy and the mother of his grandchildren, Loretta Talbert of Danville, CA
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Billy, and brother and sister-in-law, Les and Pat Talbert.
He will be greatly missed and never forgotten by his family and all those who knew him.
The family suggests any memorials be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Sedro Woolley, 201 N. Township St., Sedro Woolley, WA 98284.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 on Monday, July 17, 2006 at Union Cemetery in Sedro Woolley, WA with Mr. David Whittaker officiating. Arrangements and Services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
