Lottie Mae Hornbeck, a lifetime resident of Concrete passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon at the age of 78 years. She was born April 30, 1928 in Grassmere, WA, the daughter of John and Ruth Evans Smith.
Lottie grew up in Concrete attending school and graduated from Concrete High School in 1946. She was married to Norman Hornbeck on April 8, 1948 in Concrete and this year they celebrated 58 years together. Lottie worked as a bookkeeper for Portland Cement and later Lone Star Cement for many years and after the shutdown of the cement plants, she worked for Brim Tractor in Mount Vernon.
She enjoyed crafts, camping, fishing, following her grandchildren’s sports activities, but most of all she enjoyed her family and friends and life. Lottie was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and her church family was very important to her. She was a member of the Concrete Lions Booster Club and a Campfire leader for many years while her children were growing up. She was well known for her annual summer bar-b-que.
She is survived by her husband and life long friend Norman Hornbeck of the family home in Concrete. A son Dan Hornbeck and his wife Darlene of Wright, WY and three daughters, Ruthann Smart and her husband Bob of West Seattle, Becki Hoover and her husband Les of Concrete, and Kathie Davis and her husband Rob of Lynnwood.
