Richard Eugene Roll, 84, a longtime resident of the Wickersham community, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 27, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born on May 17, 1925 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Lloyd & Grace Bliss Roll. He was raised and attended school in Kansas and from there in 1943 enlisted into the U.S. Navy, serving his country in the Pacific Theatre during WW II until his discharge in May of 1946.

On July 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Bowman in Winfield, Kansas. They made their home there and Richard worked as an auto mechanic and a farmer. In 1958 they moved to Wickersham where they raised their family and Richard worked as a millwright machinist for W.R.P. / Boyd Lumber in Sedro-Woolley for over 30 years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working in his garden growing flowers & vegetables.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd & Grace; his wife, Marjorie in 1997; a brother Dale Roll and a sister, Betty Holt. He is survived by his sons, Terry Roll and his wife, Karen Jo of Streamwood, IL, Kenneth Roll of Burlington, Michael Roll and his wife Leatrice of Mount Vernon and Kirk Roll of Ferndale. His daughters, Kathie Roll of Raymond, WA and Deborah Brooks and her husband, Jay of Ferndale. 3 granddaughters, 1 great-grandchild and 2 step grandchildren.

A Graveside Inurnment Service with Military Honors will be held at the Saxon Cemetery in Acme on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Don Thorndike of the Little Brown Chapel in Wickersham officiating. Services are under the direction Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
