Nels Mikkel Lunde passed away Friday, January 31, 2003 at his home in Marblemount, WA at the age of 88 years. He was born July 2, 1914 in Minnesota the son of Mikkel Bakken and Marie Lunde. Nels grew up in the Day Creek area until moving to Mount Vernon where he resided for many years working for Darigold from 1936 till 1973 as a maintenance engineer. On April 23, 1949, he was married to Kathryn Townsend in Yakima, WA. After his retirement, Nels and Kathryn moved to Marblemount where they have resided for the past 28 years. During the early years of their retirement, they became snowbirds going to Arizona for the winter. Nels enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, working in his garden, but most of all he will be remembered for his love of people and life. He also was a member of the Eagles and American Legion. Nels is survived by his daughter Gretchen Lunde Stewart of Marblemount and a son Nels E. Lunde of Concrete. 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn on March 15, 1998 and his son Leon in 1978.
Graveside Services will be Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 2:00PM at the Bow Cemetery with Chaplin Wayne Stiles officiating. The family requests that friends and family meet at Lemley Chapel by 1:00PM on Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery for services. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice and the family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you for the services provided by Skagit Hospice.
