ROBERT J. MILLER, a resident of Mount Vernon passed away at the Island Hospital in Anacortes, WA on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at the age of 60 years. He was born on June 24, 1942 in Leavenworth, WA the son of Jess B. and Lillian Strehle Miller. Robert was raised in the Columbia Basin and was a graduate of Quincy High School in 1960. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation and was discharged in 1963. Robert was united in marriage to Linda Mangum on June 9, 1969 in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho. Robert worked for Grant County PUD as a senior power dispatcher for 23 years from 1963 to 1991. They moved to Mount Vernon in 1991 where after his retirement, he took courses to become a licensed ship captain of ships up to 100 tons. He did charter cruises on his boat ‘Magic Moments’ and was involved with boat sales at Wolfe Marine in Seattle. Robert was a member of Masonic Lodge #157 in Ephrata, the Oasis Chapter #191 Order of Eastern Star, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a member of Demolay during high school. Robert enjoyed boating, computers and was a joke teller.
He is survived by his wife Linda at the family home and 2 sons Kelly Miller and his wife Kaye of Sedro-Woolley and Robert Miller and his wife Sue of Clear Lake and numerous aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at 11:00AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mount Vernon at 1700 Hazel St with Bishop Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Hawthorne Memorial Park in Mount Vernon. Military Honors will be provided by George Baldridge Post #31 American Legion and Masonic Services will be provided by Mt. Baker Lodge #36 F&AM. The family suggests memorials be made to the Mount Baker Masonic Lodge Building Fund. Services and arrangements under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
