Agda Edith Bergquist

Friday, September 12th, 2003

On Friday, September 12, 2003, our mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Agda Bergquist went to be with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Agda Passed away at the age of 97 do to complications from a broken hip she sustained at her home. She was born, May 9, 1906 in Percival, Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of Hans and Emily Anderson Hanson.
Agda moved to Skagit County in 1910 with her family, living on property which would become the Hoogdal Community. The family lived in a small house while the ‘Big’ house was being built. The Big house would later be used as a school house in 1914 & 1915. One of the teachers slept upstairs in their home with Agda, because Agda didn’t want her to be alone. She was a very kind and gentle woman, and all who were a part of her life new her as having such a kind soul.
She was united in marriage to John Bergquist in Sedro-Woolley on January 5, 1924. They had a home built in 1926 and she spent her whole life living in that family home. Every visitor that Agda greeted at her home received cookies, coffee or tea. She was ‘Grandma’ to many, and she truly loved her family and friends. She enjoyed feeding all of God’s little creatures from deer, squirrels and birds, and her favorite, the Hummingbirds. She looked for them every day as they came to her yard for a bite to eat.
Agda is survived by her 2 daughters, Irene Pearson of Sitka, AK and Gladys Olander of Sedro-Woolley, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Her sister Mabel Quisenberry of Sedro-Woolley and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her son Floyd, a great – grandson Brent Olander, a great’great-granddaughter Cassandra Buckland, 2 sisters, Signe & Alice, and 3 brothers, Arthur, Eddie and Carl. One thing the family would like to mention is; Agda through the years used to ask, ‘Do you hear the beautiful singing”, as we sat with her in her living room. This went on for many years; and we would to say, ‘Those are angels singing’. On the morning of her passing we have no doubt that she finally got to ‘see’ where all that beautiful singing was coming from. Our loss will be heavens gain. She will be truly missed and loved by so many. The family suggests memorials be made to the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 17, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley. Pastor Walt Rice officiating. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Lemley Chapel on Tuesday Sept 16th from 4 to 8 PM.
