Arthur Colfack, 90, a longtime Skagit County resident, died on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Arthur was born in Osceola, Iowa on August 30, 1918, one of nine children of Nels and Kjerstine Sorenson Colfack. He was raised and attended school in Nebraska.
In 1938 Arthur was united in marriage to Frances Willoughby in Nebraska. In 1939 they moved to Seattle until finally settling in the Skagit Valley in 1944.
Arthur and family made their home in Lyman where he operated a cattle farm for several years. He later operated a wrecking business hauling vehicles and worked as a truck driver hauling logs and pulp to mills.
Arthur enjoyed tinkering and was a good mechanic, so for many years he operated a small engine repair shop out of his home in Sedro-Woolley.
Arthur enjoyed riding motorcycles, and was riding up until just recently. He was a longtime member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Sedro-Woolley and active at the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center.
Arthur is survived by his children, Alice Sullivan and her husband, Wesley of Nine Mile Falls, WA, Ellen Smart of Maple Falls, WA, Marianne Street and her husband, Tom of Tacoma, WA, Lois Cook of Sedro-Woolley, WA, Gayle Thompson of Tulsa, OK and Neil Colfack and his wife, Patty of Taiwan. One sister, Opal Wonderchezk and two brothers, Carl and Harold Colfack. Also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lloyd who died in Vietnam in 1968; his wife, Frances in 1995; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Jim Cannon officiating. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
