BARBARA JEAN SHIPLEY, 67, a Concrete area resident passed away at her home on Saturday March 8, 2003.
She was born on November 19, 1935 in Trading Post, Kansas, the daughter of George M. & Bertha B. Barnes Archer. She was raised and attended grade school in Kansas, until the family moved to Wapato, WA where she graduated valedictorian from Wapato High School. In early 1957 she moved to Washington, D.C. and was working as a conference secretary for the U.S. State Department when she met Keith Shipley and they were married on July 3, 1957 in Washington, D.C. They made their home in Washington, D.C. until 1960 when they moved to Washington State, residing in Eastern and Western Washington until settling in Snohomish in 1986. Later that year she returned to school, attending Everett Community College and then the University of Washington. In 1994 she and Keith moved to Concrete.
Barbara enjoyed sewing and making music box Teddy bears.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Keith, at the family home in Concrete. Her 5 children and their spouses; Jennifer Crawford, Shelly Moore and her husband Joe and Carl Shipley and his wife Peggy, all of Everett, and Alyson Russell and Andrew Shipley, both of Spanaway. 4 sisters, Helen Pillon of Renton, Wilma Howard of Tacoma, and Francis Archer and Janice Gillikin, both of Spokane. 2 brothers, James & Jack Archer, both of Yakima. 9 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Harry. At her request there will be no funeral services. Memorials to a charity of your choice are suggested.
