Bernice ‘Gramma Pete’ Waldrop, 75, a longtime resident of the Day Creek community, passed away at her home on Saturday, September 6, 2008 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 10, 1933 in North Carolina, the daughter of William & Mary Walker Proctor and was raised and attended school in the Big Lake and Sedro-Woolley areas.
‘Pete’ was united in marriage to Arnold Waldrop in Mount Vernon on July 9, 1949 and they made their home in Thorne Bay, Alaska where Arnold worked in the timber industry.
In 1967 they returned to Big Lake where they raised their family before moving to Clear Lake and then in 1984 to Day Creek.
Pete enjoyed crocheting, making afghans for everyone in the family; she also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching games shows and the Mariners on TV. She was dearly loved and will always be known as ‘Gramma Pete’ to her family and friends.
She is survived by her two daughters, Elaine Lindquist of Mount Vernon and Carolyn Hornbeck of Day Creek. 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; her sister, Frances Bauer and her husband, Ralph and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; three sons, Greg, Bill and Steve; a brother, William Proctor, Jr. and a sister, Geneva Foss. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Care Center at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Rick Miles of the Day Creek Chapel officiating.
