In 1964, when her youngest son was a senior in high school, she went back to school at Skagit Valley Community College and graduated with a Licensed Practical Nursing Degree in 1965. She worked at Northern State Hospital in Sedro-Woolley, later transferring to Western State Hospital in Steilacoom upon the closure of Northern State. She moved back to Sedro-Woolley following her retirement in 1981.
