Carl Alfred McDonald, 81, a Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away at his on home on Saturday, January 5, 2013.
Carl was born on October 15, 1931 in Queens, New York, the son of George & Mae (McNichols) McDonald. His parents passed away when he was 12 and he was then raised by his foster parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph De Pinto. He was raised and attended school in New York.
Carl was a veteran of the Korean War. He entered the Army in 1951, serving his country until December 1953. After his discharge he worked for the New York Telephone Company; as a volunteer fireman and for many years was an executive chauffer.
Carl moved to the Skagit Valley in the early 1980’s. He attended Skagit Valley College where he earned a degree in Human Services in 1984 and for several years was a care provider.
On August 31, 1991 he was united in marriage to Emily Lewis and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley.
Carl also was a jack of all trades type of man, he enjoyed rental home renovation, carpentry and wood working, also camping, working in his yard and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Carl is survived by his sons, Joseph McDonald of Seattle and John McDonald of Oak Harbor and daughter, Julie Brown of New York; 2 step-sons, Jan Lewis of Oroville, WA and Jeff Lewis of Sedro-Woolley and step-daughter, Kate Lewis of Montesano, WA; his brother, Sonny De Pinto;12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Miriam McDonald and his wife, Emily.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Father Martin Bourke, Celebrant. Interment with Military Honors will be at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Helping Hands Food Bank in Sedro-Woolley.
