Carol Jean Mayer, 84, a lifelong Skagit Valley resident, passed away at her home on Friday, June 8, 2018, surrounded by loved ones.

Carol was born On April 21, 1934 in Mount Vernon, WA, the daughter of Charles & Ardis (Ellstad) Mossington.  She was raised in the Big Lake area where she attended grade school and then graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1952.  She then went to Seattle where she earned a degree in stenography and worked as a secretary in Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley.  In Sedro-Woolley she worked for attorney Hugh Ridgeway and then for 26 years for attorney John Ward.

Carol was united in marriage to Robert Mayer in 1955 and for 48 years they made their home in Sedro-Woolley until his passing in 2003.

Carol is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Walt & Julie Mayer of Sedro-Woolley; her brother and his wife, Charles & Helen Mossington; grandsons, Luke & Jacob Mayer; daughter-in-law, Susan Mayer; special friend, John Ward and numerous other relatives and friends. Besides her husband Bob she was also preceded in death by her parents, and by her son, Mike Mayer in 2016.

The family is grateful for the medical help by the staff at PeaceHealth United General Hospital, for Hospice, the help of Xanna Williams, and Lemley Chapel.

Carol was an animal lover, especially her latest dog, Rosie, so the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Skagit Humane Society, 18841 Kelleher Road, Burlington, WA 98233, to S.P.O.T.  830 So. Spruce Street, Burlington, WA 98233 or to a charity of your choice.
