Charles W. ‘Chuck’ Coultas passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009 at Skagit Valley Hospital, following an extended time of declining health.
He was born on September 24, 1924 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington the son of James & Violet Coultas. He was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, starting his boot camp training at Farragut, Idaho. During World War II he served on the USS Steamer Bay aircraft carrier in the Pacific. He returned to his home after the war to be a farmer and a machinist working for Skagit Steel & Ironworks, later called Bendix Corp. where he work for over 40 years and he never missed a day of work. He was a quiet, gentle man, a faithful husband and loving father, always putting his wife and children first. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy. Working on his small farm, gardening and caring for his animals and helping others, showed the man he was. He married Margaret Colwill on October 8, 1948, having just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they had 5 children.
He is survived by wife Margaret Coultas; son Harold Coultas and special friend Sandi Brown; 3 daughters, Nancy Patterson Mel, Lori Frizzell and Sherri Hopkins Dave. 7 grandchildren, Jeff Patterson Ruth, Andrea White Joel, Kyle Patterson Paige, Alison Patterson, Rachael Rosenbalm Tim, Danny Frizzell special friend Tara Ireland, Heather Moffet special friend Kasey Evans. 12 great-grandchildren, Austin Frizzell, Timothy Rosenbalm Jr, Addy White, Jaci White, Olivia White, Torrin White, Trudy Patterson, Tobin Patterson, Clara Patterson, Gunnar Patterson, Tanner Evans, Ciera Brown and 2 more arriving soon; A sister-in-law, Winnifred Rohweder, a brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Mary Colwill and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son Charles George Coultas, his parents James Coultas and Violet Keller Housman, mother and father-in-law George and Eva Colwill; 5 siblings Lyle Coultas, Bud Coultas, Alta Hickman Paul, Lillian Skiles James, Dolly Moran George; Robert Rohweder, brother-in-law, Tommy and Ruth Ellison, brother and sister-in-law.
Graveside services will be held at Union Cemetery in Sedro-Woolley on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Memorials are suggested to Grace Cochrum Therapy Guild or a favorite charity. There will be a gathering with family and friends following the service at the family home 22677 W. Jones Rd Sedro-Woolley.
