Charles P. ‘Chuck’ Gallagher, 67, a longtime Sedro-Woolley, WA resident, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA with his family by his side.
Chuck was born on July 20, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Richard J. Gallagher, Sr. and Mary I. Brannen Gallagher. He was raised in several mid-west states as his father worked construction. The family moved to Sedro-Woolley in 1950. This is where Chuck was raised and attended school, graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1960.
From October 1960 to October 1962 he served his country in the US Army. He received an Honorable discharge from the US Army in November 1962. On June 6, 1964 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Kathy Gibbs in Sedro-Woolley where they have made their home for the past 45 years.
For many years Chuck worked in the construction industry as a carpenter building custom homes and commercial buildings. He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 1532 in Mount Vernon and the Millwrights Local 204 in Renton, WA. He worked as a Millwright for Westinghouse Fredonia Power Plant in Burlington, WA for several years. For the past 12 years he worked as the Maintenance Engineer for Blue Diamond / DeLaval Manufacturing in Mount Vernon, providing equipment and facility maintenance. Chuck was well known as the man that could fix anything. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working on projects in his shop.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy Gallagher at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. His two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff & Jaci Gallagher and Darin & Kris Gallagher, two granddaughters, Ana & Bryn Gallagher and mother-in-law, Bertha Gibbs, all of Sedro-Woolley. Two brothers, John Gallagher Bonnie of Lyman, WA and Pat Gallagher Arlene of Port Ludlow, WA. Three sisters, Mary Johns of Tumwater, WA, Eilene Ehr of Port Townsend, WA, and Peggy Homer Evans of Port Ludlow. Sister-in-law, Bobbie Gallagher of Sedro-Woolley. Numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dick Gallagher and his sister Helen Murphy.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor John Batts officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Visitation will be available on Wednesday & Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm and on Friday from 9 am to noon. Memorials are suggested to the North Puget Cancer Center, 2000 Hospital Drive, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
