David Carl Johnson

Monday, January 19th, 2009

David Carl Johnson, 71, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington after a long battle with Parkinson disease.
Dave was born on July 17, 1937 in Mount Vernon, Washington, the son of Edgar and Martha Tenneson Johnson.
Dave was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley, graduating with the class of 1955. Growing up he enjoyed being a part of a hard working farm family, getting to go hunting, fishing, and frequent trips to Samish Island digging clams. Dave was confirmed in the Lutheran Church as a young man where he attended with his family.
After high school he began his apprenticeship as a brick mason, a job he took much pride in and continued with until he retired. As a brick mason, he worked several years in Anchorage and Kodiak, Alaska where he made time to fish, hunt moose, and go snowmobiling.
In later years, Dave always looked forward to his families summer trips to Lake Pearrygin, where he could be found at daybreak sitting quietly by the lake waiting to catch the really ‘big one’! Summer time would also find Dave hiking all the hills around Skagit Valley with his springer spaniel Beau looking for little wild mountain blackberries. He would pick gallons and gallons of them which he always shared with family and friends. But come fall…it was wrestling season and Dave loved being there to support those Woolley Cubs. He went until he could no longer climb the bleachers.
Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years, Hilda Kacy Cowan Johnson of Sedro-Woolley. His daughters, June John Slayden of Sedro-Woolley and Barbara Mark Wesen of Bow and his three special grandkids, Miranda & Mitchell Wesen and Victoria Slayden. His brother Dick Audrey Johnson, brothers-in-law, Heyward Dona Cowan, Deck Irene Cowan and Trotter Cowan, a sister-in-law, Helen Butkovich and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also close friends, Norm & Linda Mitchell. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Joan Lorenzen & Inez Johnson and by his baby boy, Perry Carl Johnson.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church in Burlington with Pastor Leon Meyer officiating. Memorials are suggested to a charity of your choice or the Building Fund at Calvary Baptist Church.
