David Phillip Skaer

Friday, February 6th, 2009

David Phillip Skaer, age 47 passed away on Friday, February 6, 2009 from a brain aneurism.

David was born on April 4, 1961 in Spokane, WA, where he lived for 44 years. He graduated from Mead High School in 1980 before attending Eastern Washington University where he graduated in 1986 with a BA in Business Administration. David’s employment in Spokane included Rexcon Exploration Co., Kinney Shoe Stores, Fred Meyer and Burke’s Distributing.

David married Lesha Hastings on January 25, 2006 before moving to Western WA in February of 2006 with his step-children Jared, Jailyn and Jalayne Hastings. While living in Western WA, David worked a season for Seattle City Light as a tour guide on Diablo Lake, at The Home Depot in Burlington and Cascade Supply in Concrete where he was a Sales Associate.
David will be remembered by all who knew him as a devoted, loving, and patient husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was honest and sincere and would help anyone and everyone. He was structured, solid, and reliable. He had a witty sense of humor, was quick to laugh and always had a smile on his face. He was inspired by mountain hikes in the North Cascades, a productive day completing a project and special moments with his family. David was an amazing man who will be deeply missed.
David loved the outdoors and was an avid snow skier. He enjoyed hunting, cycling, taking pictures and restoring his Impala. His latest interest was woodworking where he built a microwave cart with cupboards, a coffee table and a large shoe shelf. David also loved nature. He kept the birds and squirrels around his home well fed. He enjoyed watching birds, identifying them in his bird book and from November to February, watching the Eagles along the Skagit River.

One of David’s biggest accomplishments was in 1980 when he biked across the United States with a friend from Spokane to Bar Harbor, ME.

He is survived by his wife, Lesha Hastings Skaer of Marblemount, WA; step-children Justin, Jared, Jailyn, and Jalayne Hastings; his mother, Barbara Skaer of Spokane, WA; a brother Bill Skaer and his wife, Debbie and their children, Natalie, Christian, Aimee, Hillary and Elizabeth of Spokane; a sister, Sue Skaer, and her children with Mark Sidel, Brandon and Taylor Sidel of Spokane; his grandmother Dorothy Burnett of Spokane; uncle Bill Skaer of Leesburg, FL; and cousin Diane Skaer of Oxnard, CA..
