Dennis E. ‘Pap-paw’ Ammons, age 74, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2009 near his home at Punkin Center.
He was born on January 14, 1935 in Hamilton, Washington the son of George and Pearl Darrow Ammons.
Dennis was a lifetime resident of Hamilton and before being disabled, he worked as a logger and in shake mills. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1960 and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans #47-WA and the American Legion.
Dennis was united in marriage to Margaret McNabb on April 20, 1956 in Birdsview and they celebrated 52 years together.
He enjoyed fishing, walking, gardening, and he loved his pets; his cat named ‘Sue’ and ‘Bulldozer’ his Scottish Highlander. Dennis enjoyed family get-togethers and birthdays, but most of all he loved his family and his new great-grandson, Cadel who was his pride and joy.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Margaret at the family home in Punkin Center. His five children, Mike Ammons and his wife, Sue of Punkin Center, Doug Ammons and his wife, Laurie of Brier, WA, Debbie Thramer and her husband, Ron of Birdsview, Darrell Ammons and his wife, Kim of Athol, ID, and Susie Brazee and her husband, George of Orient, WA. Six grandchildren, Brian Ammons and his wife, Krissa, David Ammons and his fiance, Robin, Elisabeth Angell, Joseph Angell and his wife, Karen, Sarah Ammons and Mack Mani, and his great-grandson, Cadel Ammons. His brother, Jim Ammons and his wife, Geraldine of Elma, WA and two sisters, Selah Hooper and her husband, Arnold of Orofino, ID and Elaine Stafford of Sedro-Woolley. Two step-sisters, Chris Morgan of Chehalis, WA and Darlene Ammons of Clear Lake and numerous nieces and nephews and a huge extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Matthew Ammons; a brother, Bob Bacus and an uncle, Charlie Ammons.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 2:00PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Billy Farrar of Sedro-Woolley officiating. Interment will follow at the Hamilton Cemetery with Military Honors performed by members of the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard-McChord AFB. A reception will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Eagles. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Punkin Center Fire Department, Danny Moody, Norma Truman, and Wendy Tingley for the care and concern given to Dennis at his passing.
