Donald B. ‘Don’ Munroe, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday April 17, 2005 at his home in Sedro-Woolley.
He was born on April 26, 1944 in Seattle, WA, the son of Alexander and Beatrice Harrell Munroe. He was raised and attended schools in Seattle.
On July 8, 1961 Don was united in marriage to Patricia Spurlock in Seattle. They moved to Sedro-Woolley in 1965 and have made their home here since. Don worked briefly for Skagit Steel in Sedro-Woolley in the foundry before going to work for Crowley Maritime in Seattle as a chief engineer and retired after 25 years with the company.
Don was a firefighter with District #8 for ten years. He was active in both the Sedro-Woolley High School Band Boosters and the Skagit County 4-H. He was also a volunteer at the Skagit Valley Highland Games held at Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon for many years. Don was extremely proud of his Scottish heritage and made sure that he passed it on to the next generation of his family.
Don is survived by his wife of 43 years, Pat at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Terri & Duane Brinson of Maple Falls and Darri & Kevin Zweber of Camano Island. 1 son, Rob Munroe of Everett. 6 grandchildren, Michael Turnbull and his wife, Erin, Eric Turnbull, Katie Turnbull, Don Brinson, Bill Brinson and Alex Munroe. 2 sisters, Bonnie Ackles and her husband, Jeff and Beatrice Wilson. A brother, Robert Harrell and his wife, Caroline. His mother-in-law, Iris Jensen-Reynolds and sisters-in-law, Linda Milbourn and Paula Spurlock. Also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Alexander & Harold Munroe.
Visitation is available on Thursday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM at Lemley Chapel.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel with Pastor Walt Rice of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Celtic Arts Foundation, PO Box 1342, Mount Vernon, WA 98273. Arrangements are under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
