DONALD E. ‘DON’ RINGHOUSE, 78, a lifetime resident of Skagit County passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon. He was born on March 14, 1924 in Clear Lake, WA. the son of Victor and Barbara Jones Ringhouse. He grew up in the Gilligan Creek area and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1942. A veteran of WWII, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and served until 1946. On October 23 1947, he and Marie Wood were married in Sedro-Woolley. They made their home in Clear Lake and he worked as a logger for many years. In 1964, he was appointed US Postmaster in Clear Lake where he remained until his retirement in 1985. Don loved the outdoors and hunting and steelhead fishing in the Skagit River. He always enjoyed visiting with friends and family and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks, American Legion, and the Clear Lake Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife Marie at the family home; a daughter, Connie Cox and her husband Randy of Sedro-Woolley. 3 grandchildren, Sara Barnes and her husband Ken of Chelan, WA., Dan Cox and his wife Erin of Sedro-Woolley and Jenni Cox of Bellingham. 3 great-grandchildren, Mathew, Allison and Emilie Barnes. 1 nephew, Leon Ringhouse and 5 nieces, Ardelle Ringhouse, Melissa Preugschat, Nancy Webster, Becky Hoyt and Debbie Guffie and a sister in law Beverly Ringhouse. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Kenneth and Dick Ringhouse. The family suggests memorials be made the Skagit Hospice or the Clear Lake Baptist Church.
Interment services will be held at Hawthorne Memorial Park in Mount Vernon at 12:30 PM on Tuesday , November 19, 2002 followed by a Memorial Service at the Clear Lake Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. with Pastor John Batts officiating.
