DOROTHY LEE VALENTINE, 78, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away on Friday May 14, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Skagit Valley. She was born on July 28, 1925 in Owensboro, Kentucky, the daughter of Edwin Hughes & Rena Holliman Hamlet.
She was raised and attended school in Hartford Kentucky. Dorothy was united in marriage to Burl Valentine in Junction City, Kansas on January 2, 1943. Burl passed away on December 31, 2002, just 2 days prior to their 60th wedding anniversary. They moved to Skagit County in 1946 where they spent most of their lives. They also lived in Chehalis and Centralia for a number of years. Dorothy was member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 22, where she was involved in running the bingo activities, and of the Eagles Auxiliary in Chehalis.
Dorothy enjoyed her flower garden and growing vegetables to share with friends and family. She also enjoyed bingo, reading and jigsaw puzzles, there was always a puzzle in progress on the table.
She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Lee Finnson and her husband Gregory of Bellingham. 3 brothers, John Walter Hamlet of Sedro-Woolley, Edwin Hamlet of North Carolina and Albert Hamlet of South Carolina. 1 sister, Matilda ‘Tillie’ McBride and her husband Perry of Arlington, WA. 2 step-grandsons and 1 step-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful caregivers. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice and Visiting Nurses Personal Services.
A Life Celebration will be held on Wednesday May 26, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at Lemley Chapel. Reverend Nan Geer of the Free Church Unitarian in Blaine officiating.
