She was born December 18, 1919 on Orcas Island, WA, the daughter of Henry and Minerva Dicks Smith.
Dorothy grew up in the Hamilton area and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1937. She was married to Clarence ‘Skook’ Straight on September 18, 1937 in Everett, WA. Dorothy later attended beauty school and owned and operated Dottie’s Beauty Bar on Third St. from 1962 to 1968.
Dorothy was a confirmed Episcopalian and attended St. James Episcopal Church. After her husband’s passing in 1969, she resided in Petersburg, AK for a period of time working in a beauty shop that would occasionally send her to neighboring islands to do hair for the women in the Indian villages. Dorothy enjoyed bowling and was active in the girl scouts in Sedro-Woolley when she was younger. Dorothy enjoyed camping and traveling with her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered by her grandchildren as one that was always there for them. Her last three trips were to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with her kids; while partially confined to a wheel chair she enjoyed every minute, plus a trip to Reno and Laughlin Nevada with her daughter and granddaughter. She loved to go to Happy Hour at the Eagles and Legion Club to visit with her friends, play cards with the girls, and she enjoyed playing games while living at Country Meadows.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Nancy J. Wiseman and her, husband Morris of Mount Vernon and Stephen Straight and his companion, Peggy Bruce of Sedro-Woolley. 2 grandchildren, Teresa Teri L. Klinger Thomson of Renton and Garry Ensley and his wife, Cari of Lynnwood. 4 great-grandchildren, Brandon and Kalib Dotson, Joshua and Jacob Ensley, and 1 great-great-grandson, Alex Charles Smith.
