EARL W. HOLT, 87, a Sedro-Woolley resident passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 with his family at his side.
He was born on December 19, 1916 in Raton, New Mexico, the son of Archie and Francis Fletcher Holt. He moved to Washington with his family at the age of 9, attending grade school in Lyman and Hamilton, graduating from Hamilton High School in 1934.
He was united in marriage to Ruby Hoyle in 1938 and they moved to Sedro-Woolley where they have lived since, except for the 15 years in Alaska; maintaining their home on Garden of Eden for 60 years. He served 2 years in the Army in 1945-1946. For most of his life he was a logger in Washington, Oregon and Alaska and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a 50+ year member and Past Master of United Lodge #93 Sedro-Woolley. A member of Cyrene Chapter OES-110 Sedro-Woolley and was Past Patron, also a member of Scottish Rites in Juneau, AK and Nile Shrine in Seattle.
He is survived by his wife Ruby of 66 years at the family home, 2 sons William Holt and his wife Theresa of Forks, WA and Richard Holt and his significant other Margaret of Lyman; 8 grandchildren, Todd Torgeson and his wife Paula, William Holt, Jr. and his wife Shannon, Tessa Cad-man, all of Sedro-Woolley, Patty Dorval of Sandpoint, ID, Michael, Earl, Rena, and Ruby Holt all of Forks, WA and 8 great-grandchildren; 1 sister Denzel Blackstock and her husband Virgil of Lynden, and many nieces and nephews; 1 brother-in-law William Hoyle and his wife Evelyn of Sedro-Woolley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Chester and Archie Holt; 2 sisters Ruth Gerard and Alice Martin; and a daughter Betty Torgeson in 1994.
The family suggests memorials to North Puget Oncology, in care of United General Hospital Memorial Trust, 2000 Hospital Dr., Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
Funeral Services will be Monday, October 4, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Military honors will be provided by George Baldridge American Legion #43.
