EDITH WAYNE COPE, 91, a former Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 4, 2004 at the Stafford Health Care Facility in Des Moines, WA.
She was born on April 15, 1913 in Balsam, North Carolina, the daughter of John H. & Rhoda C. Woods Coward.
Edith was raised and attained her education in North Carolina, and it is also where she was united in marriage to Thomas Cope in 1932. They made their home in North Carolina and Culpepper, Virginia where Edith worked in private home housekeeping until coming to Sedro-Woolley in 1940. For a few years Edith worked in the flower fields working for the Burger Bulb Company.
For over 20 years Edith worked as a processor for Draper Valley Farms, first in Mount Vernon then in Kent, where she has made her home for the past 35 years. She was baptized a Baptist many years ago. She enjoyed collecting chicken figurines, gardening and cooking meals for her family, to which she very devoted.
She is survived by her son, David H. Cope of Sedro-Woolley; 2 daughters, Margaret Duncan of Kent and Phyllis Birkholz, and her husband, Max of New Rockford, ND. 1 brother, John ‘Raymond’ Coward of Sedro-Woolley and 1 sister, Janet Stevens of Clyde, North Carolina. 14 grandchildren, Scott Stephens, Teri Stephens, David Cope Angie, Dianne Gardner Tom, Gary Gilbert, David Duncan Susan, Tommy Gilbert, Joe Duncan Debbie, Robert Duncan Natalie, Sandra Duncan, Robert Birkholz Kathy, Rhoda Lynn Manz, Brenda Seibold Dan Bernhart, and Max Birkholz, Jr. 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; a daughter, Edith C. ‘Kookie’ Hill; a son, Gerald Cope; 1 grandson, Darel; 4 sisters and 3 brothers .
Graveside services will be held on Monday August 9, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery with Pastor Billy Farrar of the Bethel Assembly of God Church officiating. Visitation is available on Friday & Saturday, August 6th & 7th from 9 AM to 5 PM and on Monday from
9 AM to noon at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley.
