Elizabeth L. ‘Liz’ Gibbs, 70, a lifelong Skagit Valley resident, died on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
Liz was born in Sedro-Woolley on November 8, 1938, the daughter of William & Wilhelmina Wilson Soren.
She was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1957. She then attended trade school in Bellingham.
On December 3, 1958 she was united in marriage to Jack Gibbs in Sedro-Woolley and they made their home there and Liz worked at the Northern State Hospital as a clerk. In 1968 Liz, Jack and their family moved to Samish Island where they made their home for 30 years. Liz also worked in banking for a while until in 1979 she opened and operated the Interior Gardens Flower Shop in Sedro-Woolley with business partners, Diane Torset and Linda Osborne. In 1998 she and Jack moved back to Sedro-Woolley and she sold the flower shop in 2000.
Liz was a green thumb florist thru and thru, even after leaving work she enjoyed working in her garden and growing flowers at her home. She also enjoyed hunting for and picking wild blackberries; canning foods of all sorts, but most of all she enjoyed being grandma.
Liz is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jack, at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. Her son, Jim Gibbs and his wife, Kyla of Lyman and her daughter, Lisa Favorite and her partner, Tanya Favorite of Easthampton, MA. Her beloved grandchildren, Nathaniel, Zachary, Elizabeth and Aaron Gibbs and Gus Favorite. Two sisters, Iva Ewing and Marilyn VanDelinder and a brother, William Soren. A special niece, Jennifer Anders Anderson and numerous other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill & Mina Soren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at @ 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Mark Collins officiating. Interment will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
