Elsie Mae Martin the wife of former Senator Fred Martin of the Washington State Senate passed away Friday, May 3, 2002 at Parkside Special Care in Sedro-Woolley, WA at the age of 97 years. She was born September 20, 1904 in Colville, WA. Elsie was married to Fred Martin in Mount Vernon in 1922 and he preceded her in death in May of 1995. She was a resident of Rockport for many years until moving to Mount Vernon in 1980. For the past two years she has resided in Sedro-Woolley. Elsie was a member of St. Catherine’s and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Churches. She enjoyed flowers and her family and the highlight of her life were the annual family picnic’s in August of each year. She is survived by her son Frederick Martin Jr and his wife Alice of Rockport. Daughter in law Gladys Martin of Rockport. Grandchildren Lavon Mertens and her husband Roger of Anacortes, John Martin of Bedford, TX, Jack Martin and his wife Terry of Rockport, and Rowanne Wetzel and her husband Arlin of Rockport.
Great grandchildren Shawn Voss of Camano Island and her children great great grandchildren Cortney & Cody Voss, Lala Martin of Rockport, and Jay & Gary Wells of Puyallup. Numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Doughlas in 1991.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 9, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Don Chiezey O.P. as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice. Arrangements and Services under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
