Evelyn "June" DeHaven, 88, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2007.
June was born on June 18, 1918, in Chicago, Illinois, the beloved youngest daughter of Theresa Sedlachek and Stefan Vodicka, of Croatia. June’s family moved to San Diego, California in 1926, when she was 8 years old.
She met her husband, Wellington "Bill" DeHaven, first as a friend when he was 12 years old. Their friendship blossomed and they became sweethearts, marrying in 1936. June and Bill had six children, two boys and four girls. Enjoying a 38 year marriage, June and Bill loved their family dearly, taking much pride in the home they created.
In 1974 Bill passed away, he was 57 years old. June was a devoted homemaker, taking great pride in teaching her family to enjoy good food and family tradition. She and Bill loved to dance, and enjoyed an extensive garden including flowers and fruit trees. June was an accomplished seamstress, and loved collecting antiques. June and Bill enjoyed mountain camping, and spent many peaceful hours at Lake Morena Resort in California. She extended herself with affection and grace caring for her parents, sisters, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. June felt most joyful when little children were sitting on her lap, or playing at her feet.
Following the death of her husband, Bill, June began a career at age 58, with Senior Aid and Adult Protective Services, of San Diego, retiring at age 76. She moved to Washington shortly thereafter, residing in Sedro-Woolley. During this time she enjoyed volunteering at the Sedro-Woolley School District Administrative Offices, and the Sedro-Woolley Chamber of Commerce.
