EVELYN GERTRUDE ADAMS, 71, a longtime Skagit Valley resident, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born on January 17, 1933 in South Dakota, the daughter Mack & Laura Brookings Greenough. As a young girl Evelyn moved to Skagit County, settling north of Sedro-Woolley. She attended grade school at Hoogdahl and Samish, and Sedro-Woolley High School.
In 1949 she was united in marriage to John F. Adams in Sedro-Woolley, and they made their home at Birdsview. There she raised her family and made her crafts. She was very good at knitting & crocheting and making porcelain products, items that she would sell from a shop in her home.
And for many years she worked at the Stokley VanCamp Cannery in Mount Vernon and in the berry & flower fields during the growing season. She also enjoyed gardening, but mostly being with her family & grandchildren.
Evelyn is survived by children and their spouses, John & Jeanne Adams, Jr. of Athol, ID, Charles & Alice Adams of Sedro-Woolley, Jill & Randy Core of Delta Junction, AK, Cheryl & Darrell Smith of Concrete and Ginger Davis of Sedro-Woolley. Friend & companion, Charles Cope of Sedro-Woolley. 5 sisters, Opal Mecham, Betty Whipkey, Mavis Scott, Sharon Anderson and Alice Fitzgerald. 2 brothers, Gaylord and Russell Greenough. A brother-in-law and his wife, Glen & Gerry Adams. Numerous grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John, Sr. in 1994, a daughter, Laural Berry in 2003 and a brother, Glen Greenough.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
A graveside inurnment service will be held at the Hamilton Cemetery on Saturday February 28, 2004 at 2:00 PM. Pastor Ron Schenk officiating.
