Fern Govan went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 26, 2003 at her home in Sedro-Woolley, WA at the age of 93 years.
She was born April 10, 1910 in Unionville, Iowa the daughter of Len and Rosa Swaim Ogden. As a child she and her family came to Sedro-Woolley in 1923 and she graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School in 1926. She later attended Mount Vernon Business College and in 1928 she began working for New York Life Insurance Co in Seattle, retiring in 1970 as an executive secretary. She was married to Fenton Govan June 14, 1930 in Seattle and they resided in Seattle until moving to Sedro-Woolley in 1977. Fern was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Burlington and was very active in women’s faith fellowship activities in her church. While residing in Seattle, she was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society. The light of her life was her great-great nephew Parker.
Fern is survived by her niece, Aldine Ensley and her husband John of Sedro-Woolley and a nephew David Ogden of Bothell. A sister-in-law Alyce Ogden of Bothell. Great nieces, Jozette Ensley of Edmonds and Jaydine Rana and her husband Onkar of Sedro-Woolley and their son, a great-great nephew Parker Rana. She was preceded in death by her husband Fenton in March of 1991, a sister Leona Morton in Aug of 1965, and a brother Ford Ogden in April of 2003.
Funeral Services will be on Sunday, June 1, 2003 at 2:00PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Jim Shaw of Faith Baptist Church of Burlington officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyman Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice or Children’s Hospital in Seattle, The family would like to extend a special thank you to Skagit Hospice for their care and concern of Fern.
