Frances Marion Hammer, 84, passed away on Saturday July 16, 2005 at Birchview Memory Care in Sedro-Woolley, WA with her daughter, Judy and granddaughter, Colleen at her side.
She was born January 8, 1921 in Astoria, Oregon, the daughter of Urban and Julia Grafe Duncan.
Frances grew up in Port Angeles and later moved to Aberdeen where she attended school, graduating from Weatherwax High School with the Class of 1940.
She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Clifford Hammer on September 25, 1940 in Chehalis, WA and they resided in Aberdeen for many years until moving to the Tacoma and Spanaway area. They also resided in Everett, Bellingham, Lynden, and Sedro-Woolley.
Frances enjoyed ceramics, baking, bowling in her younger years, but most of all she loved animals and children. While residing in Aberdeen, she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Active Club and PTA.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Chapman of Birch Bay and Gypsy Brokenwings of Marysville. 2 sons, Bruce Hammer and his wife, Ursula of Marysville and Clifford Hammer, Jr. and his wife, Lily of Portland, OR. 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. 1 brother, Urban ‘Bud’ Duncan of Aberdeen, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Clifford on March 31, 2005, a sister, Julia Kelly and a brother, George Duncan.
At France’s request there will not be services. The family would like to especially thank Skagit Hospice and the staff of Birchview Memory Care. Memorials are suggested to Skagit Hospice.
