Thursday, December 25th, 2008

Frank Edward Bussing, 89, a longtime Skagit Valley resident, died on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Providence Hospital in Everett.
Frank was born on February 15, 1919 in Day Creek, Washington, the youngest of three sons of Calvin & Hannah Anderson Bussing.
He was raised and attended grade school in Day Creek and attended high school in Sedro-Woolley.
In the late 1930’s Frank began a long career in the logging industry, taking a break when he enlisted into the U.S. Army in July of 1944. He was honorably discharged in September of 1945 after being wounded in a fox hole by a hand grenade in the South Pacific.
After many months of recovery he resumed his logging career in 1946. He worked as a tree faller from Oregon to Alaska with most of his time spent in Northwest Washington. He was highly regarded and often requested for precarious jobs due to his tree falling skills. Frank retired in 1979 with over 35 years of working in the logging business.
In 1964 he was united in marriage to Betty Horne in Sedro-Woolley and where they made their home for many years.
Frank was an avid fly fisherman and hunter and also enjoyed hiking and bowling. He was also a member of the George Baldridge Post 43 American Legion in Sedro-Woolley.
Frank is survived by his children, Lester Bussing Cheryl of Bremerton, Dennis Bussing Libby of Sedro-Woolley, Karen Klingshirn Ralph of Bothell and Veda Baldwin of Tacoma. Eleven grandchildren, Scott, David, Shannon, Denise, BJ, Shannon, Kelly, Dan, Jim, Dennis & James. Twenty seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many many friends, whom will greatly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin & Hannah; his wife, Betty in 2007 and by his two brothers, Raymond & Robert.
A special thank you to Scott Butler, Patty & Jerry Goodwill and Bob Horne for making ‘Pa’s’ life as full as possible for the past year and a half.
The family request memorials be made to The Busted Up Loggers Fund, c/o Deming Logging Show, PO Box 837, Deming, WA 98244.
