Gordy Campbell, 71, a lifelong Skagit County resident passed away at the Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon on Tuesday, May 10, 2005.
He was born on May 5, 1934 in Rockport, WA, the son of Johnny & Emily Campbell. He was raised and attended school in Concrete, and is where he spent most of his life.
Gordy was a kind and gentle man with a very strong will. His memories of early Skagit County were amazing, and he told many stories of the early Skagit Indian Tribe. He was a very proud member and elder of the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe.
For several years he worked as a firefighter and tree planter for the U.S. Forest service in Marblemount. He enjoyed fishing and playing many card games, especially cribbage with his best friend Jana, he was an avid reader and his latest hobby was playing poker on the computer. He also loved watching all sports on TV, and his favorite teams were the Washington Red Skins and the Seattle Mariners. Gordy’s family would like to thank Dr. C.J. Kuan and his kidney team, Dr. Dan Siapco for his excellent eye care, the Life Care Center in Sedro-Woolley and his many caregiver. Thank you very much.
He survived by his cousins, Jim Campbell and his wife, Dorothy of Rockport, Ruth Smith and her husband, Dale of Milton, WA and Larry Campbell and his wife, Faye of La Conner. Also good friends, Connie, Greg, Sheila, Sue, and special friends, Richard & Jana Miller.
A memorial service will be held on Friday May 13, 2005 at 4:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Harlan Sam & John Cayou, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be at the Sauk Indian Cemetery. Cremation and arrangements under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
