Grant Gaylord Stone, 96 formerly of Seattle, Washington, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022, in Sedro-Woolley, WA.  Grant was born April 9, 1926, to Henry Alfred and Gladys Pearl (Ansen) Stone in Oakland, California.  He was married to Gwen Hockey of Port Angeles, WA and had three children, Gary Grant Stone, of Gold Bar, WA, Alan ‘Greg’ Stone, of Sedro-Woolley, WA, and Elisabeth Ann Stone, of Shoreline, WA, also a daughter from a previous marriage, Signe Stone, of Tulalip, WA.

Grant was a 1944 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Seattle, WA.  He enlisted in the US Navy at the end of WWII as a morse code operator on the USS Ticonderoga in the Pacific. He contributed to the restoration of peace in the Pacific Islands after the war.

He held a bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in special ED from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.  He was employed with Seattle Public Schools as an elementary school teacher for many years, where his students were very grateful for the personal attention they received.

An avid outdoorsman he worked with the Park Service on Mount Rainier and was a member of the Seattle Mountaineers Club.  Grant loved golf and carded many par rounds in the playing years.  In his retirement years he fitted golf clubs with the Tom Wells Golf Company.

Grant is survived by his son Greg; daughters, Elisabeth and Signe; granddaughters, Jenny Martin (Mark), of Wenatchee, WA, Katie Olsen (Andrew), of Lake Stevens, WA; grandson, Dakota Stone, of Alger, WA; numerous great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Al and Gladys Stone; wife, Gwen E. Stone; son, Gary G. Stone.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00, on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the Bothell Pioneer Cemetery, 10816 Valley View Road, Bothell, WA with Military Honors.  Share your memories of Grant and sign the online guest register.
