GRETHE MARIE HUNN HENSHAW, 85, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away at her home on Wednesday December 3, 2003.
She was born on July 16, 1918 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the daughter of Jeppe & Christine Hald Gronnebek.
In 1925 the family came to the United States, settling in Spokane, WA where Grethe was raised and attended school.
She made her home in Opportunity, WA and she worked as a head bookkeeper for the Albertson’s Grocery Stores in Spokane for many years.
In 1961 she was united in marriage to Howard Henshaw in Couer d’ Alene, Idaho and they made their home in Spokane until coming to Sedro-Woolley in 1992. She had been a member of the Danish Lodge # 117 in Spokane.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Smith and her husband Dick of Mount Vernon, WA and Billie Sly of Sedro-Woolley, WA. 4 grandsons, Kevin, Terry & Rick Smith and Eric Sly. 4 great’granddaughters, Samantha, Stephanie, Felicia and Hannah Smith, 1 great-grandson, Austin Smith, and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Gerda Busch of Seattle. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard in 2000 and a brother, Jeppe Gronnebek. The family wishes to thank Tim with Skagit Hospice, and Kim, a coordinator with Meals on Wheels, and their staff for all of their care and assistance towards Grethe.
