HAZEL MAY SWAN HANSEN, a Stanwood area resident, passed away Friday June 21, 2002 at the Josephine Sunset Home at the age of 94 years.<br>My mother and best friend. I can’t imagine life without her sweet smile. <br>She was a wonderful mother. A beautiful woman with a kind and gentle soul.<br>Hazel spent much of her life as a nurse, both in a clinic and in private home health care. She was a champion for women’s rights a half century before it became a popular issue. <br>She was raised and grew up in the Mount Vernon area spending most of her adult life living in Wenatchee and Yakima before settling on Camano Island in 1988.<br>She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bendtsen of Camano Island. 2 granddaughters, Denice English of Rosalia, WA and Daryn White of Lakewood, WA. 4 great-grandsons, Drew & Drake English and Dhayne & Joseph White and 1 sister, Lois Swan McDonald of Santa Barbara, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Walt Hansen. Her infant son, Johnny Leroy Bendtsen. Her brother and sister-in-law, Hil & Ellen Swan and a sister, Velma Swan Turner-Shannon.<br>Hazel will lie in rest with her family at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in LaConnor.
