IRENE E. AFFLECK, 84, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away at her home on Wednesday July 2, 2003.
She was born on October 21, 1918 in Selah, WA, the daughter of Roy M. and Nellie Brookes Klinefelter. Irene was first raised in Benton City, WA, then for a period of 4 years the family lived in Cereal, Alberta, Canada, returning to Benton City where Irene completed her education. She was united in marriage to Clayton Affleck in Grand Coulee, WA on November 2, 1937. They made their home in Tacoma from 1937 until 1946 when they moved to Ephrata, WA. Irene was active with her family’s activities, from volunteering her time at the schools to being a Campfire Girls group leader.
In 1969 the family moved to Sedro-Woolley and Irene worked as a sales clerk at Horen’s Drug Store in Burlington for nearly 20 years. She was also active in local Orthopedic Guilds in the community. Irene expressed the true meaning of giving and of friendship to her family and friends, all of which were very important to her.
Irene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Deirdre Affleck of Renton. Her daughter, Carol Affleck of Seattle. 3 grandchildren, Arianne, Robyn and Gavin Affleck, all of Renton. 1 brother, William Klinefelter of Mount Vernon. 2 sisters, Ruby Crowley of Roseburg, OR and Ruth Marlin of Bremerton, WA. 1 sister-in-law, Jeanne Bean of Mount Vernon and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Clayton in 1973.
Irene’s family suggests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the Helping Hands Food Bank in Sedro-Woolley.
Graveside services will be held at Hawthorne Memorial Park Cemetery in Mount Vernon on Tuesday July 8, 2003 at 11:00 AM.
