IRENE RUTH MEYER, 93, a former Wickersham area resident, passed away on Sunday February 20, 2005 at the Burton Care Center in Burlington.
Irene was born on October 7, 1911 in Anacortes, Washington, the daughter of William & Rebecca Hanna Arnott. She was raised and attended school Bellingham. In 1931 Irene was united in marriage to Cecil Meyer in Bellingham and together they made their home in Wickersham where they raised their family. For several years Irene traveled to Bellingham where she worked at the cannery. Cecil passed away in 1964 and Irene continued to make her home in Wickersham until 1999 when she moved to Birdsview to be near her family; just recently moving to Burlington.
She enjoyed doing craftwork, cooking and was an avid reader. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Besides her husband, Irene was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanette McCauley and a granddaughter, Mary McCauley.
She is survived by her son, Bill Meyer and his wife, Jan of Wickersham, and her daughter, Eleanor Brookings and her husband, Stan of Birdsview. 2 sisters, Maxine Doyle of Reno, NV and Hazel Pearson of Bellingham. A son-in-law, John McCauley of Kelso, WA, and a close friend, Jack Kelly of Oliver, B.C. 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Irene’s family requests that memorials be made to Country Care Adult Family Home, 36999 Hoyle Lane, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284 or to Burton Care Center, 1036 E Victoria Ave., Burlington, WA 98233.
Graveside services will be held at the Saxon Cemetery on Friday February 25, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Bob Dillard of the Little Brown Chapel in Wickersham officiating.
