OBITUARY

Jim D. Peninger, 49, a longtime resident of Newhalem, WA passed away suddenly at his home of a massive heart attack on Tuesday, November 30, 2004.
Jim was born on February 27, 1955 in Seattle, WA, the son of John and Joyce Hietala Peninger. He spent his childhood growing up in Georgetown, WA until the family moved to Auburn in 1969. While in high school, Jim was the pitcher of the varsity baseball team. He graduated from Auburn High School with honors in 1973. Jim loved classic cars and the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He also coached boy’s baseball in Auburn and in Whatcom County.
He moved to Newhalem in 1992 when he began working for Seattle City Light as a painter and then as Shop Supervisor. Jim enjoyed team sports and was an avid supporter of his sons’ involvement in football, basketball, and baseball. He also enjoyed participating in sports and spearheaded the creation of a Skagit team for the annual Newhalem Softball Tournament held each summer at the Newhalem ball field. This is where he recently met Suesie Kosbab and they were married on September 3, 2004. He also enjoyed playing golf and organizing golf leagues. He was also a member of the local Emergency Medical Rescue Team in Newhalem and a member of the Concrete Eagles, Aerie #1444.
Jim is survived by his wife, Suesie Kosbab-Peninger at the family home in Newhalem. 2 sons, Kyle Peninger of Mount Vernon and Joey Peninger of Newhalem. His father, Rich Peninger and his wife, Marlene of Gig Harbor, WA. 2 brothers, Jon Peninger of Kent, WA and Jay Peninger of Newhalem, WA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Peninger in 2000.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley. Visitation will be available at Lemley Chapel. A reception will follow the services at the Concrete Eagles Club where a potluck will be held. At Jim’s request, he will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered at a place of his choosing. The family suggests memorials to: Concrete High School, c/o Don Beazizo, 7830 Superior Ave., Concrete, WA 98237.
