JAMES L. GARLAND, a resident of Concrete passed away at his home on Sunday April 7, 2002 at the age of 82 years. He was born on August 27, 1919 in North Carolina, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Luther Garland. He was raised and attended school in North Carolina. He was united in marriage to Naomi Aldridge in Spartenberg, South Carolina in 1944 and they made their home in Pennsylvania until moving to Rockport, WA in 1947.
Jim was the owner and operator of a logging and construction company in the upper Skagit Valley for many years. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Don & Pam Garland of Concrete, WA and James and Connie Garland of Poulsbo, WA. 1 brother, J.M. Garland in South Carolina and 1 sister, Fairie Ingram in Maryland. 7 grandchildren; Dan, Justin, Jeffrey, Paul, Brian, Jim and Jennifer Garland, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Naomi, his wife of 52 years, in 1995 and a son, Vern in 1994.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memorial Cemetery in Burlington. You may share your thoughts and memories and sign the memorial guest.
