JOYCE GOSS WARD, 75, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday August 7, 2004.
She was born on December 6, 1928 in Mount Vernon, WA, the daughter of Melvin & Josephine Moen Hansen. She was raised and attended grade school on Fir Island, graduating from Mount Vernon High School in 1947.
On February 21, 1948 she was united in marriage to George Goss in Mount Vernon and they made their home in Sedro-Woolley where they owned and operated Goss’ Variety Store from 1948 until their retirement in 1991. In 1990 they moved to Mount Vernon and it was there that George preceded her in death in 1996.
On January 17, 2001 Joyce married John Ward in Phoenix, Arizona and they have made their home in Sedro-Woolley.
She was devoted to her loving family and enjoyed a lifetime of friendships.
Joyce enjoyed gardening and was active in the Fir Island Garden Club. She was also active with the MVHS class of ’47 Ladies Group, the Skagit City School Alumni Group, the Sewing Club and the Mall Walkers.
She is survived by her husband, John, at the family home in Sedro-Woolley. Her children and their spouses; Mark & Micki Goss of Elizabeth, Colorado, Randy Goss, Jack & Crystal Goss and Karen & Eddie Frizzell, all of Sedro-Woolley. 7 grandchildren, Sara, Daniel, Corey, Mallory and Garrett Goss and Alex and Charlie Frizzell. A daughter-in-law, Sue Goss of Sedro-Woolley. 3 step-children, Nancy Kenney, Jeanne Earnest and Jeff Ward. 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara Ward Thompson of Sedro-Woolley and Esther Goss of Augusta, KS. A brother-in-law, Bob Goss and his wife, Marcia of Sun City West, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Norman B. Hansen.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Martin Taylor of the Fir-Conway Lutheran Church officiating. A fellowship luncheon will follow services at Riverfront Park in Sedro-Woolley. Visitation will be available at Lemley Chapel on Monday evening and on Tuesday August 10th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Private inurnment will be at the Fir-Conway Lutheran Cemetery.
