JOYCE I. GRIMBLY, 78, entered into God’s rest on October 16, 2004 at home in Sedro-Woolley after a brief illness.
She was born in Acme, Alberta, Canada on October 3, 1926, the daughter of William and Olive Jaquith Bruneski, and she grew up on the family farm there. At sixteen she came to Anacortes, WA to live with her aunt, Myra Jaquith, and to attend high school. She married Richard Grimbly in 1952 and they moved to Sedro-Woolley where she lived the rest of her life.
Joyce retired from National Fruit Canning Co. and was "Doctor Joyce" to her husband Dick for his convalescence. She was a member of Prairie Rose Rebekah Lodge # 111 IOOF in Acme, Alta, then Success Rebekah Lodge #74 IOOF in Sedro-Woolley, and a 6th degree member of the Samish Grange.
Joyce was a strong person; as a 19 year old she returned to Alberta
to raise crops on the family farm, and as a 77 year old she drove alone to Denver to visit family. Her devotion to family and generosity
to all will be deeply missed.
She had a lifelong interest in baseball, which she coached at Summit
Park, and wished she’d lived in a time when women had more
opportunities in sports. Travel was important to her, particularly
to the coast, where her ashes will be spread. Joyce was extremely
fond of animals, especially horses and dogs. Her dog Brandy was
her constant companion.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen Grimbly of Sedro-Woolley, Carol Williams and her husband, Tom of Arvada, CO. and Daryl Grimbly and his wife, Arlene of Sedro-Woolley. A step-son, Gordon Grimbly and a step-daughter, Pat Dralle, both of Sedro-Woolley. Her grandchildren, Kristin, Matthew, Kevin, Misty, Rachel, Brian, Sadie and Hunter and great-grandchildren, Weston, Dylan and Benjamin brought her great joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ike and husband Richard.
A memorial gathering will be held in the near future.
Memorials are suggested to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Seattle, WA.
Arrangements and cremation under the care of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. You are invited to share your memories of Joyce and sign the online guestbook at www.lemleychapel.com
