KARISSA LEIGH CARLSON, age 27, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2020 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Karissa was born in Bellevue, Washington on May 12, 1993.  During her early years, she lived in North Bend, WA where she attended Montessori Pre-School and Opstead Elementary School.  When she was 7 years old, she moved to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and lived in that area for the remainder of her life.

Upon completing high school in Canada, Karissa enrolled in college and later continued her education pursuing her interest in becoming a forensic attorney.  While in college, Karissa met her partner, Colton Scissons.  Karissa and Colton purchased a home and were living in Almonte, Ontario, Canada.

Although Karissa moved away from the area, she spent most of her holidays and summers with family and friends here in the Pacific Northwest or visiting her grandparents in Arizona.  One of her favorite vacation pastimes was visiting Disneyland.

Karissa faced the challenges of her illness with the same spirit and determination that she faced life.  Her courage during her fight was an inspiration to all her friends and family.  Karissa was a beacon of light and an undeniable presence from the moment she was born.  Full of laughter and joy, she ran head on into life.  Her sweet, kind and determined spirit will never be forgotten by those who loved her.

Karissa is survived by her partner, Colton Scission; mother, Michele Boyer and step-father, Rob Boyer; father, Mike Carlson and step-mother, Suzy Langley; brothers, Daniel Carlson and Erik Carlson; step-brothers, Chad Boyer and Dylan Boyer; grandmother, Gail Carlson; grandparents, Russ and Linda Smith; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Karissa was preceded in death by her grandfather, Leonard Carlson; cousins, Larry Trueman and AJ Armey.

It has been difficult waiting so long to honor our beloved daughter, but now that we can safely gather with our family and friends, we are able to lay Karissa to rest at Union Cemetery in Sedro-Woolley.  There will be a Celebration of Life and luncheon at Noon, Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Sedro-Woolley Community Center, 703 Pacific Street, Sedro-Woolley.  Share your memories of Karissa and sign the online guest register.
