KATIE HENDRICKSON, 93, a longtime Sedro-Woolley, WA area resident passed away Tuesday May 7, 2002 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sarah Katherine Luckenbill on March 11, 1909 in Northfield, Iowa, the daughter of Ben & Mary Schultes Luckenbill. She was raised and attended school in Mediapolis, Iowa.
Katie taught school in Iowa for three years before moving to Washington State, teaching elementary school in Glacier, Blaine, Clear Lake, and Sedro-Woolley, teaching for 41 years until her retirement in 1974.
In 1935 Katie married Del Trimble in Bellingham and he preceded her in death in 1946.
She was a longtime member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley and of the Retired Teachers Assoc.
Her devotion to teaching continued even after her death, as her body was offered to the University of Washington School of Medicine for research. With that, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Sedro-Woolley School Foundation, C/O the Clear Lake Elementary Fund, P.O.Box 401 Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.
She loved teaching, and spent hours reading with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was famous for her pies, and enjoyed gardening, family and pets, including a beloved dog, Babe, and numerous birds. She was also a great seamstress and quilter. She was also preceded in death by her second husb and, Roy Hendrickson, brothers, Jake and Adrian Luckenbill, sister, Lucindy Hammer and on March 26th of this year her sister Emrance Thomas of Morning Sun, Iowa.
She is survived by her son, Ben Trimble and his wife Eva of Big Lake, WA. Daughter Mary Sue Dallas and her husband Lee of Bellingham, WA. 5 grandchildren, Heather Pitman and husband Jeff, Allison Clark & husband Ed, Erin Earles-Swortz and husband Paul, Sara Trimble and Jake Trimble. 6 great-grandchildren, Jesse & Orin Pitman, Logan & Hannah Clark, Madeline & Emily Swortz. Numerous step-grand and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in memory of Katie at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sedro-Woolley on Saturday May 11, 2002 at 10:30 Pastor Walt Rice officiating. Inurnment will be at the Blaine Cemetery. Cremation and arrangements under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, WA.
