LAWRENCE HENRY BATES, 82, a longtime Sedro-Woolley resident passed away on Friday February 27, 2004 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was born on February 23, 1922 in Staples, MN, the son of Allen & Sylvia Albee Bates. The family lived in Minnesota, moving to Sedro-Woolley when Lawrence was a young man.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II, serving in the South Pacific Theatre.
For many years he worked as a welder in construction, he was an auto mechanic and worked in farm implement repair and maintenance. He also did repair and service of home appliances.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Cheryl & Jeffrey Huizenga of Stanwood, Wendy & Dave Bryant of Sedro-Woolley and Steven Bates of Mount Vernon. 2 grandchildren, Joey Gross and Shelby Croy; 2 great-grandchildren, Wyatt & Eli Croy; a sister, Ruth Torseth and her husband Melvin of Mount Vernon and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert & Kenneth Bates. At his request there will be no funeral services. Cremation under direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
