LAWRENCE JOHN ‘LARRY’ MANKE, 67, a resident of Alger, WA, passed away Friday September 27, 2002 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon surrounded by his children, brother & loving companion.
Larry was born on March 3, 1935 in Fort Collins, Colorado, the son of Otto & Noreen Bailey Manke, Jr. As a young boy the family moved to Atlantic, Iowa where he was raised and attended school. Larry was a roofer for most of his life, but his full time occupation was fishing, hunting and telling lies. For many years his greatest joy was running his hounds in the hills with his many hunting partners.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 36 years Patty in 1990, a brother Ronald and a grandson Tanner Manke.
He is survived by his loving companion, Clara McKay at the family home near Alger. His children and their spouses, Peggy & Jerry Lindquist of Big Lake, WA, Kim Manke of Clear Lake, WA, Kathy & Greg Johnston of Palmer, AK, Rick & Kathie Manke of Sedro-Woolley, WA, Mark & Michelle McKay and Jody McKay-Long all of Alger, WA. 15 grandchildren, Sean, Shannon, Nichole & Jared Lindquist, Justin & Shane Manke, Sarah, Jennifer & Garrett Johnston, Heath, Tyler & Amber Manke and Lindsey, Whitney & Cody McKay. 4 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan, Maegan and Audrey. A special thank you to Dr. Mark Johnson and the nursing staff at Skagit Valley Hospital who cared for Dad and the family during his final days. The family suggests memorials be made to the Oncology Dept at Skagit Valley Hospital or Skagit Hospice, PO Box 1376, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
